Jeep's Xtreme Recon Package Targets the Bronco's Sasquatch

It's no secret that Jeep's Wrangler and Ford's Bronco are in a battle of attrition of the off-roader's dollar. Ever since Ford announced the next-gen Bronco was on it's way, it was clear that it would be a competitor to the Wrangler. Now that Broncos are trotting off the assembly line in Michigan, Willy has announced the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon package. They are set to debut a Wrangler fitted with the Recon package on July 14 at the 2021 Chicago Auto Show.

Rubicon 392 with the Xtreme Recon Package

The Recon package starts with a 1.5-inch factory suspension lift, with uniquely tuned shocks. Details about what makes it's shocks 'uniquely tuned' are still vague. You'll be riding on 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires on 17-inch by 8-inch beadlock capable wheels. The package will also increase your axle ratio to 4.56:1.

What does all of this achieve for you? Here's the breakdown:

  • Ground clearance – 12.9-inches
  • Water fording – 33.6-inches
  • Approach angle – 47.4 degrees
  • Breakover angle – 26.7 degrees
  • Departure angle – 40.4 degrees

What we'd like to see is a factory Ford Bronco with the Sasquatch package go up against a factory Wrangler Rubicon 392 with the Xtreme Recon package to see who will prevail. Ford and Chrysler are surely concerned with who's sales figures will prevail!

The package is ready to order, and will be rolling off the Toledo assembly plant starting in August. Will you be ordering the Recon package? Add our Jeep Wrangler JL aftermarket parts to complete your build.
