Good buy for the money

Chose this bed rack for my tent. I’ve got it on a 13 DCLB and was struggling to find a rack that was long enough to stretch both ends of the bed. Most that I found were anywhere from 6”-10” too short and looked odd. The DV8 is nice because it’s a two piece design which allows you to stretch it out as far as you tent will allow which is most cases will be just fine. Pros: built well, good price for what it is, comes out of the box with a mount for a high lift jack, comes with doable the amount of rail sliders that are needed, comes with plenty of extra bolts for other add one, the rear cross bar has a mount to add a 6” light, comes with a way to add rotopax to the inside of the rack, and the versatility to size it to your bed however you want. Cons: comes with a bunch of extra stuff you won’t use, 500lb static is not very much weight when 50-100 of that is the tent itself. There is one big flaw that other reviews have mentioned, they will now sell additional cross bars. As a “Made in the USA” company I genuinely do not under why they can’t create additional stock of these cross bars. Adding more cross bars would aid in weight distribution as well as making your tent more secure to the mount. This realization has made me curious how they handle warranties regarding the cross bars. If I want to add cross bars I have to fabricate my own or start from scratch and replace the ones it came with with all new ones that are readily available. Overall it’s a great rack and it fits my needs great. I wouldn’t say the lack of additional cross bars is a dealbreaker, just something to think about. I’m going to run them until they either can’t handle the weight or break. Lots of pros to think about with this rack, hope that helps.

Structural Integrity could be easily improved but R&D says no???

I called in asking for additional crossbeams for the top of the rack. This would not only create great additional mounting points but would also increase the strength of the overall build. I asked to purchase or order additional crossbeams and they said they do not carry them, they only come with the kit. They include tons of additional hardware that is unnecessary to complete the build but won't provide common-sense extras. Also, the packaging is a complete nightmare! I filled a 50gal garbage can with all the packaging trash.

I do like the look of the completed install. I like some of the mounting points. Overall, it's just mediocre for the cost. It should be able to support the weight of a RTT and 2 persons of less than 200lbs at a minimum, but fails even that.

Love the looks and low profile design

I agree with all that Marc G states and found customer service satisfactory. I'm am very concerned with what seems to me as not enough off road strength when carrying my Smittybilt RTT. What bothers me most is that i had anticipated this from before even buying and installing the rack. I tried 2-3 times asking to be able to buy an addental cross member for additional strength only to be told that its not available. You see quite honestly 500 pounds does not cut it for off road use. The RTT weighs +160 pounds and if you add two people at 200 pounds its a bust! On a single off road trip last October I hit a rut in the road which caused all four tires into the air. When the Tacoma landed the two cross members holding up the RTT where bent. Now I'm not quite sure if I need to rebuild my current rack (adding some angel iron cross members?) or ordering some other stronger bed rack? Any suggestions, anyone? thanks P.S. yes I do have bed stiffeners installed.

Great low profile bed rack

Purchased this rack after doing some online research. This one fit all my needs. Wanted something that would allow my RTT to sit just below the cab line of my Taco but also give me some room height in the bed of the truck. And if I need more room the cross bars come off easily enough. It is also just low enough for me to utilize it for my mountain bike roof racks. Plenty of places to attach additional off road equipment to the side freeing up space in the bed. From ordering to shipping was very fast and it was easy to assemble and install by myself. While I have only had it on the truck for about a week, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a bed rack for their overlanding needs.
