The Bronco Raptor: Elevated for the Trail
Designed to take on more than your standard trim level Broncos, the Bronco Raptor is optimized for the off-road environment. From upgraded suspension to additional off-road features, the Raptor is a solid option for those that thrive on heavy-duty trails and love high-speed desert racing. However, one downside to the Raptor is the lack of available upgrades needed to transform your rig into your dream off-road build, this is where DV8 swoops in to save the day. After acquiring a Bronco Raptor of our own, we wasted no time in outfitting it in bumpers, storage solutions, side steps, and lighting configurations. While the OEM parts take it one step closer to off-road excellence, we take it the rest of the way. Whether you already own a Bronco Raptor or are looking to invest in one, come along with us as we take a deep dive into what it offers and what can be incorporated into your build for the perfect off-road machine.
How Does the Bronco Raptor Compare to Other Bronco Trims?

While most Bronco trim levels are designed to be daily-drivers with the added bonus of trail utility, the Bronco Raptor embraces its off-road potential. First and foremost, let’s take a look at its power.
The Raptor Engine:
One of the signature features of the Raptor trim is the power that it offers. When you first drive the Bronco Raptor, you will be surprised at its rapid acceleration. Coming stock with a 3.0 L twin-turbo V6 engine, it can hit 0-60 mph in as little as 5.6 seconds, which is quite impressive for an off-road SUV. Offering around 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, you can not only feel the thrill on the road, but also confidently tackle off-road races and difficult trail terrain.
Upgraded Suspension:
Arguably one of the most prized upgrades the Raptor offers, the advanced suspension system provides a smoother ride and absorbs big bumps with ease when hitting the trail. Going in-depth, the Raptor is equipped with HOSS 4.0 suspension, FOX 3.1 Internal Bypass Shocks with Live Valve Technology, and enhanced wheel travel (13-inches in the front/ 14-inches in the rear). With all these upgrades combined, the Raptor is designed to take on Baja-style desert racing and difficult trails way better than other Bronco trims.
Body and Frame Modifications:

The most recognizable feature of the Bronco Raptor is its upgraded body and frame. First off, the Raptor is around 9-10 inches wider than the other trim levels, and the larger fender flares help account for this larger body size. Additionally, the Raptor’s reinforced frame and rock rails, as well as its enhanced Dana 44 and Dana 50 axles, provide greater stability and durability for those tougher trails. While the larger body size can provide limitations on tighter trails, the improved frame and axles allow you to tackle bigger obstacles with greater ease.
Larger Tires without Necessary Modification:
One feature that makes the Bronco Raptor trail-ready is its stock 37-inch all-terrain tires. When it comes to trail builds, one of the first modifications we recommend is a lift-kit along with wider wheels/tires for a big upgrade in off-road performance. However, with the Raptor, this becomes an unnecessary concern thanks to the upgraded suspension and tires.
Tap Into the Off-Road Modes:
One of the last upgrades that make the Bronco more equipped to handle off-road terrain are its extra off-road modes. While all Broncos come equipped with GOAT modes, the Raptor offers extra functions such as the Baja, Tow/Haul, and Off-Road Modes. With the Baja Mode, you can embrace your inner race driver while the Raptor uses its enhanced suspension and changed torque settings for optimized high-speed desert racing conditions. When you need to haul up to 4,500lbs, the Tow/Haul mode adjusts the transmission gear ratios for optimal performance. Last, but not least, the Off-Road mode engages the rear locker when navigating uneven terrain. For those that need a rig that can handle a wide range of tasks, the Raptor is here to provide.
Bronco Raptor Aftermarket Upgrades

While the stock Bronco Raptor gets you close to the optimal off-road machine, it doesn’t get you all the way, which is where we come in. Not only do aftermarket parts give your rig a unique styling, but they also provide enhanced utility that is needed for a successful trail day. From bumpers to roof racks to side steps, we’ve got what your Raptor needs.

What is the First Upgrade I Should Implement on My Bronco Raptor?
While there is no correct answer to this question, we recommend starting with where your needs lie. Have you noticed a frequent need for side lighting when off-road? If so, adding ditch light brackets is a great upgrade to invest in. However, if you constantly fear front-end damage, a front bumper would be the way to go. While the end goal is a full off-road build, we understand that this isn’t always a feasible task to complete all at once, so it is best to look at what your off-road lifestyle needs, and start knocking off these upgrades one by one.
Do Aftermarket Bronco Upgrades Fit the Bronco Raptor?
The short answer is it depends. Due to body and suspension differences, some Bronco aftermarket parts are not compatible with the Raptor. However, there are a surprising number of upgrades that are compatible with all trim levels. For instance, while the front-end requires Raptor specific modifications when looking at front bumpers, most rear bumpers are compatible with the standard Bronco trims and the Raptor. Additionally, it is common for interior upgrades such as door pocket molle panels to be compatible with all Bronco models. Overall, it is important to look for compatibility before purchasing an aftermarket part for your Bronco Raptor.
Is the Bronco Raptor a Good Off-Road Vehicle?
Overall, the Bronco Raptor is a great option if you are someone who loves to traverse technical terrain and/or participates in high-speed desert racing. Additionally, while high-end trim levels can be difficult to modify, DV8 Offroad offers a wide range of upgrades that will allow you to customize your Raptor to fit your off-road vision.
Our Conclusion on the Bronco Raptor

If you live life out on the trail, the Bronco Raptor is certainly worth looking into for your next off-road rig. With its power and upgraded suspension, we love taking ours out on the trail. Additionally, with our available upgrades for the Raptor, it is a great option for those looking to create a rig that is unique to them.
